We have had a couple of instances of employees taking part in clinical trials for pain relief which involve taking cannabis. The taking of cannabis would contraven our policy on drugs and we are struggling to ascertain exactly what impact the pain relief drug would have, what we can say the employee can or cant do whilst taking it and so how to word our policy to make any exception as might be appropriate. Has anyone else come across this and have any advice?
I suppose you could state the substance was prohibited unless it was clinically indicated by a medical practitioner. This would presumably allow for both personal use under medical direction as well as under a clinical trial setting.
