I am looking to see if anyone has used and willing to share their experience of a US online healthcare service provider called Teleadoc ? In particular opinions of their user experience of the services provided to UK customers?
The reason for asking is that we are about to be offered this service as a replacement for an embedded EAP service with our Income Protection supplier. The account teams are talking a good talk about the service and care it can offer our employees, but i am wondering how much of this is marketing spin?
When reading reviews online I am seeing mixed reports - with a low consumer rating of 2.6 out of 5 (https://www.getapp.co.uk/reviews/131455/teladoc). Granted this is mainly based on their American operations, it isn't filling me with confidence.
We've started using them as Smart Health via AIG/YuLife. It's early days for us but the talk so far has provided exactly what we wanted.
The big differences between this and an EAP:
1) Teladoc is open to families on every level with no restrictions which is often not the case with EAPs where family access is often limted to in the moment
2) The mental health support is therapy based - it's intended to get someone from where they are now either to a resolution or into long-term support. It's much broader than counselling available through an EAP.
3) The GP Service & complex case support/2nd medical opinion are valuable add-ons that you don't get from an EAP.
The only thing with replacing an EAP with Teladoc is that the general wellbeing piece may be lost as Teladoc don't do financial wellbeing, legal advice etc. so you may have a bigger & broader benefit but you may also end up with a small gap at the very basic level in your provision.
