Retail General Management Pay Structure

I would like to find out some information on relative seniority and pay within the General Management ‘GM’ population of your organisation. By GM we mean the most senior Retail employee in a store in charge of the day-to-day operations.

For your organisation:

1. Are there different levels/grades/pay bands depending on the format of the store? (e.g. size of store; city centre / high street / retail park; product / activities within stores)
2. If Yes, on which criteria are the levels/grades/bands based?
a. Revenue
b. Headcount
c. Store Type (e.g. Superstore, Metro)
d. Other KPIs / accountabilities (please specify)
e. Combination (please specify)
f. Other

Any guidance/info greatly appreciated, 121 if preferred

Hi Joe,

When I was in retail we did have varying base salaries for managers and assistant/trainee managers of each store. It was based on turnover or net profit delivered. eg a lower turnover store that delivered a greater net profit was also recognised.

Much smaller retailer then what you seem to have but so it may not be as simplistic for you to approach at a straight turnover/profit approach.
